Filed Under Eczema | Leave a Comment
There are different types of eczema. The one that we hear about the most is atropic eczema or infant eczema. This is a bothersome skin condition, but it is not life threatening. There are other types of eczema, some not as well known. One type of eczema that is still a mystery to many is Nummular Eczema. Nummular eczema affects men more than woman, specifically after the age of 55. In rare cases, this condition has been seen in women age 15 to 25 years old.
Nummular Eczema is a skin disorder believed to be allergy-related where itchy patches or spots in the shape of coins appear on the skin. Nummular eczema is also known by other names such as nummular eczematous dermatitis and discoid eczema. Nummular eczema is the most common name, while nummular eczematous dermatitis is the medical name and discoid eczema is the name given because of the coin-shaped lesions on the body. The most common places for nummular eczema to occur are the legs, hands, arms and torso.

Eczema, often referred to as atropic eczema, is a skin condition that affects many people at some time in their life. Although it usually affects young children (infantile eczema), it also affects older children, teenagers and young adults. Symptoms of eczema often resurface from time to time. Symptoms of eczema are a rash. Sometimes you may feel itchiness before the rash even appears on your body.
This is why eczema is often called "the itch that causes a rash" instead of a rash that causes an itch. Other symptoms are dry, itchy, scaly skin usually on the face, neck, hand and legs. In children, it may also occur on the elbows and knees. They may be patches of redness as well as skin lesions depending on the severity of the eczema.

In some individuals, eczema will have the appearance of bubbles and the bubbles may ooze. In others, however, it may just appear as dry, red and extremely itchy skin.

Eczema is a skin condition that affects the skin on different parts of the body. It involves the skin becoming red, blistering, scaly, oozing, brownish and very itchy. One type of eczema is called atopic eczema. Atopic eczema is also referred to as atopic dermatitis. Atopic means that there’s a tendency for the skin to become inflamed as well as the linings of the lungs and nose.
Atopic Eczema is often hereditary, or rather the tendency for allergies such as asthma, hay fever, sensitive skin or other skin allergies. Most individuals that have atopic eczema also have either family members that have eczema as well or allergies.
