Soil deterioration due to heavy rains and flash floods causing erosion and land collapse is a major factor in the destruction of agricultural areas.Being fully aware of both the cause and the effects, His Majesty the King undertook an in-depth study of a specific variety of thatch discovering its unique quality of water absorption which prevents the top soil from being washed away by floods while preserving the moisture in lower soil layers. Thatch is a local grass that can serve as a living barrier, slowing the damage caused by water and wind. It also creates a root web that impedes the loss of the vital top soil. It is easily obtained, requires minimal care and is therefore very economical. As world recognition for His Majestys ingenuity as a soil and water preservationist, The International Erosion Control Association or IECA presented His Majesty the King with an International Merit Award while the World Bank also presented His Majesty with a bronze plated Grassroot replica. Since 2534 the success of the Thatch Royal Support project has rejuvenated the land, once again returning its abundance to the Kingdoms ecology. Today thatch is no longer regarded as a useless weed but literally a Miracle Grass, a valuable ally to the kingdoms precious soil.
