I actually like eating this, (The song's just a joke lol) especially when it has been boiled, and the next day i'll slice it down .. fry it on a pan and pour a little sugar on it... DE-licious.. lol.. but the making of it has always been interesting to me.. they cut sheeps stomacks to good size, then sew it together , leave a little hole, add the "goo" (lol) in there and sew it back up again.. for many icelanders this is an annual thing to do for families... but this was the second time my family did this since i can remember.. and it was in 2006.. the last time we did this before that,, maybe 12 or 13 years ago.. But in the time between we just had the ones you can buy in every store/supermarket... and that is just as delicious! :) although some people think its much better home made. This is one of the recipes that people used when there wasnt much food to go around in Iceland.. they had to use pretty much everything they could find.. and used alot from the sheep.. even the sheeps heads and ram balls.. that is food in iceland lol.. (i got a slide show of sheeps heads too :P)But food you may find appealing that is from here is the fish, the beef, the lamb, and more i cant remember right now or dont know the english name of.Here is the recipe and more on lifrarpylsa .. the food that was being cooked here in the slide show, they also have more icelandic recipes.. in english :)http://icecook.blogspot.com/2006/01/lifrarpylsa-liver-sausage-icelandic_23.htmlI think the other version is in english called blood pudding, but it is done the same way, just blood is added to the mixhere is info on skyr http://www.answers.com/topic/skyr

Jan 9, 2008 - no no no....haggis is goat liver stuffed with all kinds of things...had some before...but i'm not a huge fan.
nicegirlfromiceland Says:
Jan 10, 2008 - actually, there are many types of haggis, scottish haggis is just the best known one.this is a traditional Icelandic haggis, and its been made like this for centuries.we could add more to it, but chose not to as we dont like the taste of those, its not any less of a haggis for that

nicegirlfromiceland Says:
Apr 14, 2008 - yea, i think i know what it is, i am raised in a land where it is made every year. and ive made it myself 2 times and people around me make it often. we also learn about this in school I think i recall.. so yea.. i think i know at least something about this lol.. but is it possible that haggis is another version somewhere else? like this is the icelandic version, how is the scottish one? :) any different or the same, lol,, i dont know..

Jul 28, 2008 - what was the white stuff it was being put into???
nicegirlfromiceland Says:
Jul 29, 2008 - you must be meaning the sheep stomacks lol, they cut the sheep stomack and clean it, then cut it so they can be sown in those bags.It does sound gross, but actually the liver sausage(haggis) will be better because of it in my opinion.. its like if you cook chicken without the skin, it will be more dry... this must be similar i guess.. you can use artificial bags but they dont give as good outcome
unavaiableWTF Says:
Aug 6, 2008 - gross lol

Aug 10, 2008 - Isn't this the same as blómur? And also not related to this, but isn't skyr the same as yogurt? Anyway, Þetta var bara gaman. Fínt.
nicegirlfromiceland Says:
Aug 11, 2008 - ahh you mean Blóðmör, well, it is very similar, but in blóðmör they add blood to it... when you buy all this you also get hearts etc but we dont use all of that... I think blóðmör is similar to blood pudding but im not sure, maybe it is that lol..if you look at the link in the description for skyr you see answers on how skyr is,skyr is kind of similar to yoghurt but there is something that is not the same,
LOGREGLA Says:
Sep 27, 2008 - It looks beter when you buy it but the taste is all that maters. Its not gross we eat this in my school really often.
nicegirlfromiceland Says:
Sep 27, 2008 - yup, I love it, we had slátur (haggis) last time I cooked, and got "real" slátur, not the one from all year long, it was heavenly!! :D

Oct 5, 2008 - I have to be careful when I eat meat. Like a nice piece of chicken breast, if I come across that dark red vein, I cut it out. Same for hamburger. I can't eat that - too many little gristle balls. One time I cut into a steak, but when I was pulling apart the two pieces, there flipped out a small branched artery. I got sick to my stomach and had to go throw up. I'm mostly vegetarian, but I will have a little bit of meat, very sparingly, if it's free of the little 'grossies'. LOL!

lanroshkpu Says:
Aug 25, 2007 - May be the spelling is different,i write it just as sound, gamme are the lamb intestines stuffed with ground meat rice and species, look's very simmilar to haggis.
