The famous Te Deum great hymn of praise used during the Roman Catholic and subsequent protestant era's for which Tallis lived through. Queen Elizabeth gave Tallis and Byrd the full right to compose music for the Chappell Royale both in Latin and English. Tallis lived and died as a Roman Catholic and it was only because of his sheer genius in contrapuntal English Renaissance music that he was still allowed to practice the Faith.
