I was fortunate to have worked with Bob Seney in the BS Orchestra from 1999 - 2003. Bob is a very talented compsoer and performer. His music features elements of Frank Zappa and Steely Dan among others. This song is a Bob Seney composition entitled "Swallow It." This selection starts from my drum solo. This song is actually about 20 minutes long. And there are 11 people on stage. The camera view only shows 3. Working with Bob was great because, while the songs are his work, he allowed all of us in the band to go our own way with our solos. Bob was gracious enough to let me do some really off the wall things with my solo. In my drum solo, I used D Drum triggers on my Tama drum kit through an Alesis D4 to a Yamaha SY 85. In the SY 85, I set up a patch using an alalog synth sample layered as a 9th chord. I used a foot switch to step through different combinations of tone spacing. My durmming influences come from Danny Seraphine and Tris Imboden past and present drummers of Chicago. I got the idea for this type of solo from what Danny did in the 1986 - 87 Chicago tour. He triggered synth sounds in a drum solo for the Robert Lamm song "Forever." Danny's performance was so cool that I had to try to emulate it.
